WASHINGTON FOOD AT BEST

Publisher Note

it has been an exciting time since the launch event of Washington Masala on August 6th, 2009 at a fabulous Indian restaurant, Indique Heights. Since then it has been more exciting times attending many galas, charity events and even hot DJ Akbar Sami night promoted by Nitin Verma and Shalabh Agarwal of Shalabh Entertainment. When I look back at my years in life, I can’t tell when I was having this much fun under tremendous stress; one event a day to attend and then normal daily work load along with the magazine load. I attended the South Asian Bar Association networking event with Mayor Fenty, Mr. Natwar Gandhi and Ajay Gohil of SABA. The venue was very electric and jazzy at “Hotel W” in Washington DC. I was amazed to see the participation. Many people picked up the Magazine and said “wow”.

Some days were more fun than others. Miss India DC Cigar Cruise, organized by Ms. Neena Bhaskar of Miss India DC, was a bright idea. Romeo Juliet cigars were sending smoke in the air, raising the beautiful smell of hand rolled cigars and single malts were the flavor of evening drinks. The group pictures came out looking like a mafia gang blowing Tommy guns and enjoying cigars. Runa Rizvi night, hosted by Bombay Tandoor, was a wonderful evening. Mrs. Verma of Bombay Tandoor did a great job by organizing such a beautiful exclusive event. The crowd had great fun and the food was as good as ghazals. Runa was terrific and did a great job performing to the small group. She deserves more credit than she gets. Finally after two months of PR work, the Miss India DC night arrived on September 6, 2009. The venue was at George Washington University in Washington DC. Being one of the judges, I was truly looking forward to seeing what Neena Bhaskar and Sib Kazmi have been doing for so many years. Both met some fifteen years ago while they were organizing the same event and then got married. The team has since then been committed to helping build confidence in young girls and helping them get to the next level in their confidence. I want to give both of them lots of credit.
By the time this magazine goes to press, I would have already attended Vatsala Mehra’s ghazals night. I have her cd and I can’t tell you how many times I try to steal a few moments in my day just to listen to Vatsala ji. Washington Masala will cover her event in the December issue. I want to thank all my friends and secret admirers who have supported me with my obsession of becoming a publisher. I want to give new dimensions to the word “Publisher” and be more of a South Asian Community ambassador and a good citizen. I want to help our community network more and forget the borders . I want to help all South Asian countries come closer and reach out to new skies of collaboration.
